ACM: More time needed for assessing complaints about Schiphol’s charges
Summary
- ACM has received many complaints about Schiphol’s charges.
- ACM needs more time for handing down a decision.
- This decision is expected to be published in May.
The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) has received many complaints about Amsterdam Airport Schiphol’s charges and conditions that will come into effect on April 1, and ACM needs more time for assessing these complaints. This means that ACM will hand down a decision after the commencement date of April 1, 2025. In the meantime, the charges set by Schiphol will, for the time being, come into effect. It is in that decision on said complaints where ACM will decide whether these charges can remain in effect or that Schiphol has to adjust them retroactively.
ACM expects to hand down a decision on the complaints by mid-April at the latest. This decision will be published in May. If ACM decides that the charges were set in violation of the law, Schiphol will have to set new charges within four weeks. These new charges are then, with retroactive effect, valid from April 1. If ACM decides that the charges meet the legal requirements, the charges that come into effect on April 1 will remain in place.
